• Mesquite City Council passes short-term rental ordinance, hears comments on police contract (mvprogress.com) — Mesquite City Council has approved a new ordinance making vacation home rentals a permitted use in many residential areas, streamlining applications while keeping licensing and safety rules in place. Residents also pressed leaders about police labor negotiations and oversight, and heard updates on new arts events, a temporary finance consultant, animal shelter adoptions, and a local addiction recovery program.
   

• MV Fire Captain; members of Mesquite Animal Control, Fire & Rescue receive SOAR Awards (mvprogress.com) — Mesquite's Animal Control officers and Fire & Rescue personnel have been honored with regional SOAR awards for rescuing 114 dogs and their ongoing service to the community. Local leaders, including the mayor and city manager, attended the Las Vegas ceremony, and the honorees will receive additional recognition at the Oct. 27 Mesquite City Council meeting.
