Nevada high school ranks in top 5 nationally in US News 2026-27 list (thenevadannews.com) — A Reno school, Davidson Academy, has been ranked No. 4 in the entire nation by U.S. News & World Report, putting Reno firmly on the map for top-tier public education. Several other Reno high schools also made Nevada's top 10, highlighting strong local options for college readiness and graduation success.

Reno-Tahoe tourism hits record with nearly $500M in room tax revenue (kolotv.com) — Reno-Tahoe tourism just hit a record nearly $500 million in taxable room revenue, signaling more visitors in local hotels, restaurants, and businesses. Visit Reno Tahoe credits sporting events, conventions, and growing activities in Reno for a 14% visitor increase, which is also driving expanded air service and more jobs across hospitality, transportation, and retail.
3. Reno to be Hyve Solutions' flagship Nevada campus for advanced manufacturing (kolotv.com) — Reno is set to host Hyve Solutions' flagship Nevada manufacturing campus, bringing a large 624,000-square-foot facility and a share of roughly 3,000 new advanced manufacturing jobs to the region. With wages above the state average and roles from production to engineering, state and regional leaders say the project strengthens Reno's position in AI and tech hardware while diversifying the local economy.
4. Wildlife Wednesday: Restoring wildlife habitat (kolotv.com) — Wildlife experts in Reno are spotlighting how Nevada is restoring habitat after a brutal wildfire season that has already burned hundreds of thousands of acres statewide. A Nevada Department of Wildlife biologist explains how invasive grasses like cheatgrass worsen future fires and why post-burn restoration work matters for the region's wildlife.
5. New, black smoke seen within Bug Fire perimeter, no need to call 911 (2news.com) — Fire officials say new black smoke visible from the Bug Fire is coming from within the existing burn area, so residents north of Reno are asked not to call 911 about it. The fire, which started August 8 and has burned nearly 94,000 acres, is now 94% contained and all evacuations around the area have been lifted.
