1. Nevada extends SNAP replacement benefits deadline for wildfire losses to August 28 (mynews4.com) — If you're a SNAP recipient in Washoe County or the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony who lost food in the Bug or Stallion fires or related outages, you now have until August 28 to request replacement benefits. The state secured a federal extension, and affected residents can report losses by visiting a Division of Social Services office or calling 775-684-7200.
2. South Reno bakery's front window crashed into by cars twice in just over two years (2news.com) — A south Reno bakery, Haven on Earth off Double R Boulevard, has now had cars crash through its front windows twice in just over two years, most recently nearly hitting a mom, child, and staff. With help from the City of Reno, firefighters, and health officials, the gluten-free shop quickly reopened using a makeshift door and is asking residents to support them by stopping in.
3. Courage House Nevada saved from Bug Fire just 6 months after opening (kolotv.com) — A Reno-area home for trafficked girls, Courage House Nevada, narrowly escaped the Bug Fire as flames reached its front door before firefighters saved the property. Staff, girls, and animals had to evacuate, and now the nonprofit faces uncertainty over renewing costly fire insurance that's essential to keeping its state license and continuing services.
4. Fallon downs Reed; Galena, Damonte Ranch roll to victories (rgj.com subscription) — High school football fans in Reno have plenty to talk about after Fallon edged Reed and Bullard slipped past Reno High 34-33 in a controversial finish. The roundup also highlights upcoming games involving Reno-area schools at Mackay Stadium and across Northern Nevada, giving local fans a clear look at who's playing where next weekend.
