1. Body camera video shows Reno officers responding to Longley Lane crisis call (2news.com) — Reno police recently released body camera footage from a Sept. 7 crisis call on Longley Lane, where officers used less-lethal tools to safely disarm and detain a person threatening self-harm. The individual was taken for medical evaluation, and police emphasized their approach to mental health crises while reminding residents they can call 911 or 988 for urgent help.
   

2. RTC hosts public meeting for Moya Boulevard improvements (thisisreno.com) — Reno residents who use Moya Boulevard in the North Valleys are invited to weigh in on major safety and capacity upgrades at a public meeting on Sept. 17. From 5 to 7 p.m. at the North Valleys Community Center, RTC staff will present plans, answer questions, and gather feedback on improvements between Red Rock Road and Echo Avenue.
   

3. The Great Reno Balloon Race kicks off Thursday morning (2news.com) — Northwest Reno's skies will be packed with more than 80 hot air balloons as the 45th annual Great Reno Balloon Race lifts off at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park starting today. Gates open at 3:30 a.m. through Sunday, and organizers urge attendees to dress warmly, arrive early, plan for heavy traffic, and check the full schedule before heading out.
   

4. Reno police chief details priorities, challenges after first 90 days (mynews4.com) — Reno's new police chief, Corey Solferino, is outlining his first 90 days' priorities, from tackling staffing shortages to expanding drones and license plate readers as "force multipliers." He's also promising more transparency, with online policy access, better crime data systems, and a planned 2027 annual report, while emphasizing stepped-up traffic enforcement as the city grows.

  • This bear walked along my back fence at 9:03 PM.
