A state of emergency is in effect in Washoe County, with National Guard helicopters and personnel assisting firefighters while officials warn that dangerous red flag conditions could return.

Reno fire team 'punched in the mouth' in the first minute of Hawk Fire (rgj.com subscription) — A Reno Fire captain describes how his crew was overwhelmed in the first minute of arriving at the Hawk Fire, where they worked through the night protecting evacuees on Seneca Drive and nearby streets.
