Reno approves nearly $186,000 in wildfire rental assistance for 50 households (thisisreno.com) — Reno has approved nearly $186,000 in rental assistance for 50 households affected by recent wildfires, most of them city residents. If you were displaced or lost income because of the Bug, Fred, Stallion or Hawk fires, you may qualify for hotel or rent help through the AB540 Disaster Relief Assistance Program, with applications available online and by phone.
   

2. Reno to launch year-round nonstop flights to Nashville (2news.com) — Reno-Tahoe travelers now have a year-round nonstop flight option to Nashville, with Southwest launching direct service between the two cities starting Oct. 1. The new route expands Reno-Tahoe International Airport's growing list of nonstops, making it easier to reach Music City and connect to additional destinations beyond Tennessee.

UNR launches animal science program to keep students in-state (thisisreno.com) — The University of Nevada, Reno is launching a new bachelor's degree in animal science, giving local students a way to train for livestock, veterinary and biotech careers without leaving the state. With hands-on access to Main Station Farm, Wolf Pack Meats and advanced tools like virtual fencing and AI-enabled livestock monitoring, the program aims to strengthen Nevada's meat and livestock industries.
   

4. Sexual assault resources available for university students (2news.com) — Students at the University of Nevada, Reno have multiple on-campus resources for reporting and recovering from sexual assault, including Title IX services, NV Cares, counseling, and campus police. Faculty and students stress planning ahead when going out, leaning on trusted friends or professors, and speaking up rather than staying silent, with clear guidance on where UNR students can turn for confidential help.
