1. 3 parcels at Reno Experience District on the market (rgj.com subscription) — Three parcels totaling 12.6 acres at the Reno Experience District, the former Park Lane Mall site at one of Reno's busiest intersections, have been listed for sale. The move raises questions about the future of the project's final phase, which was once pitched as Reno's answer to Santana Row, and could reshape housing, retail, and entertainment options for nearby residents.
2. Washoe County DA rules 2024 Reno police shooting of Kristopher Gari was lawful (kolotv.com) — Washoe County's district attorney has ruled that Reno Police Sgt. Patrick McCauley acted lawfully in the 2024 shooting of Kristopher Gari after a series of dangerous vehicle pursuits ending at a West Fourth Street gas station. A newly released 29-page report details the three-day sequence of stops, Gari's repeated attempts to flee, and the DA's conclusion that deadly force was justified under Nevada law.
3. Bull Fire smoke prompts air quality advisory for Reno-Sparks (thisisreno.com) — Reno-Sparks residents are under an air quality advisory because Bull Fire smoke is pushing fine particulate levels into unhealthy ranges, especially for children, older adults and people with lung conditions. Health officials urge sensitive groups to limit outdoor activity, keep medications handy and use tools like the AirNow app to track rapidly changing conditions.
4. Scientists seek new ways to protect Sierra Nevada meadows (kunr.org) — Researchers connected to the University of Nevada, Reno's Lake Tahoe campus are collaborating to better understand and protect Sierra Nevada meadows, which are vital for wildlife, water storage, and water quality. Their workshop focused on identifying research gaps and improving restoration strategies, with the goal of guiding more effective conservation work across the mountain range that shapes much of Reno's watershed.
