Nevada Air Guard returns from deployment in Iran for Operation Epic Fury (2news.com) — Nevada Air National Guard members from Reno's 152nd Airlift Wing are home after a six‑month deployment to Iran, returning Sunday to the Reno National Guard Base by Reno‑Tahoe Airport. Families gathered along the runway to welcome the High Rollers, who were sent out on just three days' notice and flew intensive tactical airlift missions. Airmen described the deployment as unusually uncertain and stressful, but said they're grateful to be safely back in Reno.
2. We Rounded Up 9 Nevada Animal Sanctuaries Where Kids Spend A Whole Day With Rescued Residents (takingthekids.com) — Families in Reno have several nearby animal sanctuaries where kids can spend full days feeding, learning about, and caring for rescued animals, from wildlife at Animal Ark to horses at Desert Pines Horse Rescue. The guide also spotlights the Om Home Healing Sanctuary and other Nevada sites, with practical details on hours, costs, and how to arrange visits. It's a budget-friendly way to plan meaningful outings close to home.
3. 2 arrested after ammo theft, foot chase at Sparks mall, police say (kolotv.com) — A theft of ammunition at Scheels in the Legends at Sparks Marina led to a foot chase through the Sparks mall and the arrest of two young men from the Reno-Sparks area. Sparks police recovered two loaded firearms, including one stolen and one without a serial number, and returned all stolen merchandise. Officers say there is no ongoing threat, but they're asking anyone with information to contact the department.
4. Local memorials, university hosted events to remember, honor the fallen (thisisreno.com) — Gold Star families and veterans were recently honored at ceremonies in Sparks and at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home, with nearly 900 fallen Nevadans recognized at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza and Battle Born Memorial. The University of Nevada, Reno also held a Salute to Service pregame and halftime tribute at Mackay Stadium, spotlighting one Gold Star family's sacrifice and ongoing military service.
