Crews rescue hiker near Hunter Creek Trail in Reno (mynews4.com) β Search and Rescue crews helped an injured hiker off the Hunter Creek Trail in southwest Reno after a medical issue left her unable to continue, coordinating with REMSA for treatment at the trailhead. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is urging Reno hikers to stay hydrated, carry proper gear, and prepare for changing fall conditions before heading out. Their reminder comes as warm weather continues and rescues remain frequent.

2. City of Reno to end Flock Safety license plate reader contract, city manager says (mynews4.com) β Reno officials have decided not to renew the city's contract with Flock Safety license plate readers or a related crime-scene drone service, with the agreement set to expire March 17, 2027. The move affects 29 existing city-owned cameras using Flock technology, following a 2025 council vote that funded more than 40 surveillance units, many downtown.

From China to Reno: The tradition behind the Dragon Lights Festival (kunr.org) β Reno residents can experience the Dragon Lights Festival, running through Nov. 29, with new interactive lantern displays rooted in centuries-old Chinese traditions. Master artisan Jiang Guanghong explains how the illuminated artworks symbolize reunion, blessing, and shared happiness. This year's features include a robotic "cactus man" and a live chat screen linking Reno visitors with festivalgoers in another city.

Welcome Abra Richardson, RGJ's new photojournalist (rgj.com subscription) β Reno readers are getting a new visual journalist at the Reno Gazette Journal, funded through a local grant and reader donations to cover social issues in our community. Recent Columbia College graduate Abra Richardson will focus on free, public photo and video projects highlighting the people and stories that define Reno and Northern Nevada.
