Hey, Reno! Let's get this day started. Here's everything worth knowing today in town.

Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. The City of Reno seeks to replace Arlington Avenue bridges using funding from President Biden's infrastructure bill. The bridges are almost one hundred years old and are currently safe to drive on. The costs of replacing the bridges are estimated to be $25 million and the work is anticipated to start in the fall of 2024. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  2. A Reno professor has received a $60,000 grant to research English language quirks. Valerie Fridland was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship to determine how speech habits enrich a language. Fridland has a book that she will be releasing in 2023 that will shed more light on the topic. (Nevada Today)
  3. Reno startups have raise $1.4 billion in external funding in 2021, a new record. The new record is more than fifteen times the previous year's $96 million raised. Battery technology companies accounted for over half of the new investment funding. (Reno Gazette Journal)
