Created by City Council Resolution No. 5153 on July 25, 1995, the purpose of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee is to advise the City Council on matters relating to senior citizens, to promote and support senior-oriented special events and collaborative efforts that meet the needs of seniors, and to serve as an advocacy body on behalf of older adults in the community.
The Committee had planned to celebrate the 25th Anniversary in July of 2020, but had to postpone the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Coming out of the pandemic, the role of the Committee is more crucial than ever before,” said Paco Lachoy, Chair of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. “Loneliness and isolation have always been a concern for senior citizens. COVID-19 put seniors at higher risk for severe illness. When combined with the fact that many seniors are on a fixed income, and not necessarily tech savvy, you have a perfect storm for seniors to become even more isolated and vulnerable. We are hosting this event to celebrate the anniversary while also bringing awareness to the importance of keeping our local senior community engaged.”
Residents and media are encouraged to attend the reception to learn more about the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee and City services for senior residents.
