🌱 COVID Hospitalizations Remain High + New Phone Scam
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.
Hello, people of Reno! Dominique-Noelle Rafael here with the Thursday Reno Daily.
First, today's weather:
Plenty of sunshine. High: 47 Low: 21.
Here are the top 3 stories today in Reno:
- COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases have remained high due to the Omicron surge in Washoe County. After collecting data from wastewater, health officials predict that there will be a continued rise in cases within the next week. However, all is not lost because during a media briefing, health official Kevin Dick claimed that it was "encouraging to see that it wasn't as dramatic as what [they] were seeing earlier." (Reno Gazette Journal)
- The Reno Police Department and the Reno Municipal Court Marshal Division are warning everyone about the new phone scam that is taking over the City of Reno. These individuals are claiming to be employees of the Marshal Division and requesting a $2,500 bond or fear risk of being arrested. Authorities have officially stated that they will never use phone calls to require any type of payment. (KOLO)
- Unemployment rates have dropped slightly in Carson City, Reno, and Las Vegas according to reports. Out of the three Metropolitan Statistical Areas, Reno was seen to have had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.8 percent in December. This is slightly lower than the rate seen in November, which was 2.9 percent. For the latest information on Nevada's unemployment rates, check out the article! (Carson Now)
