COVID Surge At St. Mary's + Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe's $7.2M Expansion

Here are the top stories today in Reno:
- Unvaccinated patients make up about 90% of COVID hospitalizations at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. However, employees are seeing some changes with COVID patients compared to last year's surge. Patients now require a high amount of oxygen and the hospital is also seeing younger patients. Additionally, those who are at the end of their lives will be allowed two visitors. (KRNV My News 4)
- Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe announced today that plans are underway to expand the Lakeview area of the mountain to include additional ski terrain and a new high-speed chairlift. The expansion is estimated to cost upward of $7.5 million dollars, and is expected to be complete ahead of the 2022-23 winter season. Preliminary work has already begun, with the lift replacement process to begin at the end of the 2021-22 winter season. On-mountain improvements underway include an additional $1+ million investment in snowmaking infrastructure on the Mine Train, Slide Bowl, and Race Arena trails. (South Tahoe Now)
- The UNR Ski Swap returns this Friday through Sunday, Oct. 1-3 to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, showcasing new and gently used skis, snowboards, boots, and winter outerwear. (Carson Now)
- Operation of Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) buses were called to a halt on noon Monday as the Teamsters Local 533 union called for another strike a little more than a month after the last one. (ThisisReno)
- The Great Reno Balloon Race returned after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.(UNR The Nevada Sagebrush)
