Rise and shine, Reno! It's Friday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and cooler. High: 44 Low: 27.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Reno:

  1. The woman who was arrested last month for responsibility for her nine-year-old child ingesting fentanyl is facing a new charge. "Fentanyl mom" is actually 30-year-old Elizabeth Marie Irvin. Recently, authorities recalled her face while on duty for another issue, which brought about events that lead to her new charge. (KOLO)
  2. Councilwoman Jenny Brekhus has been accused of denying the request for Jacobs Entertainment to present at a public meeting. Garrett Gordon was the lawyer acting on behalf of Jacobs Entertainment. He stated that Brekhus denied his request to appear at a neighborhood meeting for the residents of her district. (KRNV My News 4)
  3. College student murder victim Brianna Denison's story was aired on "Dateline" on the Oxygen network. For some markets, the episode will repeat on Jan. 19. The story covers Denison's kidnapping and assault. It also goes into more detail about her assailant's history and includes why he is currently on Nevada's death row. (Reno Gazette Journal)
