The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Happy Friday, people of Reno! Here's everything you need to know to start today off on an informed note, shall we? Here's everything worth knowing today in Reno.

First, today's weather:

Here are the top 3 stories today in Reno:

  1. As chilly winter temperatures set in, the Reno Fire Department is training its entire team on ice safety and rescue procedures. The Department's Water Entry Team (WET) is conducting this training throughout the month of January to ensure all its members are prepared to enter still water or ice in case of an ice rescue situation at one of Reno's many ponds and lakes. WET members receive additional instruction on the search and recovery of submerged victims who may be trapped under broken ice. (KOLO)
  2. American Battery Technology Company (ABTC), a Reno-based lithium battery recycling company, has recently staked 122 additional lode mining claims near Tonopah, on top of its 305 existing claims. The new mining claims add 2,440 acres of claims to the company's total. ABTC's "Tonopah Flats Lithium Exploration Project" will entail geological mapping, sampling, geochemical analysis, and proprietary extraction trials to gauge the performance of the company's lithium extraction and manufacturing operations.
