🌱 First-Ever NAGPRA Symposium + Congrats Firefighter Recruits

Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. The University of Nevada, Reno hosted the first-annual Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Symposium this week. The event garnered a significant turn-out, with nearly 100 people in attendance in person and another 100 joining virtually. The day was packed with expert panelists from local tribes and community leaders who shared experiences and lessons on the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).   2. 20 firefighter recruits graduated the Reno Fire Department academy this week. Throughout their experience at the academy, recruits were trained in all aspects of firefighting and were ultimately tested via written exam, interview, and a physical agility test. Now that they have graduated the academy, the 20 recruits will continue their training as probationary firefighters. (FoxReno.com)
  3. Women veterans of Nevada are coming together in Reno today for the 2022 Annual Women Veteran Conference. The event is designed to provide Nevada's women veterans the opportunity to come together for a day of fun, learning, and comradeship. This year, participants will be able to attend breakout sessions on entrepreneurship, self-defense, and more. (Carson Now)

  • In 2021, the purchase and renewal of Lake Tahoe branded license plates brought in more than $350,000. Nevada's Division of State Lands said it will use to fund a number of environmental preservation and restoration projects on the Nevada side of the lake. (Facebook)
