🌱 Graduates Push for Livable Wages + Healthy Drink Shop Opens

Here are the top 3 stories in Reno today:

  1. Graduate students from the University of Nevada of Reno (UNR) and Las Vegas (UNLV) are pushing for livable wages and affordable housing. The graduate student associations of UNR and UNLV have joined forces to draft a proposal and applied for American Rescue Plan funds. The proposal was made through Governor Steve Sisolak's office. It is still unknown whether or not it will be taken up by the state. (KOLO)
  2. Spark native Stephanie Guerra has opened a health-conscious drink shop with her husband. Protein Jungle is a health shop that supplies its customers with protein shakes and energy teas. Even though she opened their doors to the shop amidst a global pandemic, Guerra doesn't believe she is at a disadvantage. She has taken great strides to create opportunities for herself. (KOLO)
  3. University of Nevada Reno's president has supported the plan to hold an in-person semester even though some faculty are asking for a two-week pause. University president Brian Sandoval has explained that he is trying to support the student body's wishes to hold in-person classes. However, the faculty and staff of UNR have expressed opposing viewpoints. (KRNV My News 4)

  • The University of Nevada Reno is welcoming students, faculty, and staff back for another great semester of learning! In-person classes and activities will be held. Wishing everyone a memorable and happy semester. (Instagram)
  • The Reno Fire Department has started training members of their team in basic ice rescue skills. Check out their video online for more information. They are encouraging the residents of Reno to stay off the ice for their safety. (Facebook)
  • The Washoe County Library is encouraging members of the community to tune into the KUNR public radio station.
