Here are the top stories in Reno today:

  1. Despite the pandemic, Reno has still been getting tourists. The surge has come from people staying in local hotels as well as short-term rentals by Lake Tahoe. Special events, like the rib cook-off and the balloon races, have also been a big help in bringing in more tourists. (KOLO)
  2. The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is hosting the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) annual training conference in Reno from Sept. 12 to Sept. 16. NASDVA members represent the heads of veterans departments of all fifty states and six territories. The conference brings them together to share best practices, be briefed by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs officials, and coordinate efforts on tackling veterans' issues across the United States. Formed in 1946, the association is celebrating its 75th year of serving veterans. (KTVN)
  3. The Reno Fire Department is cleaning up after a building near the corner of W. First St. and Arletta St. caught fire. (KKOH)
