Here are the top stories today in Reno:
- The Reno Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a residential neighborhood off of University Loop, north of the University of Nevada, Reno. The homeowner had been working on an addition to the house and discovered the smoke when he got back from a hardware store. There was no one inside at the time of the fire except two dogs, one of which was unharmed and the other has received oxygen. (KOLO)
- Parking was expected to reach capacity at the Reno-Tahoe Intl. Airport on Monday. Airport officials said due to travel restrictions loosening and people taking longer vacations, parking at the airport is filling up a lot quicker than during the pandemic. If you are catching a flight out of the airport in the coming days, officials are encouraging passengers to catch a ride from a friends or utilize rideshares. (KRNV My News 4)
- Fire tornado prediction tools are being developed by University of Nevada, Reno and DRI researchers to be used during extreme wildfires. (Carson Now)
- A new Native American mural inside the Joe Crowley Student Union at the University of Nevada, Reno includes the fight over Thacker Pass. (Reno Gazette Journal)
- The Reno Arch turned pink on Saturday for the third annual Paint Nevada Pink campaign, a month-long statewide campaign to promote breast cancer screening as Oct. is Breast Cancer Awareness month. (KTVN)
