Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. Beware commuters: there are major traffic changes coming to Reno's Spaghetti Bowl this week. According to Nevada Department of Transportation Spokeswoman Meg Ragonese, crews have widened five bridges on southbound I-580 south of the spaghetti bowl over the past 18 months. Starting next Monday, southbound I -580 drivers will finally be able to drive down those newly constructed interstate lanes. Check out all the ramp closures and lane shifts that may affect your drive time at the link. (KRNV)
  2. Students are safe after smoke closed Alice Smith Elementary School in Reno on Tuesday. Classes were canceled Tuesday morning due to "lingering smoke and odor" after a small electrical fire broke out due to a burned-out rubber belt from a heater in a maintenance area inside the school. Washoe County School District officials say no one was injured and everyone was safe who was heading into the school during the time of the fire. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  3. The Nevada Western Heritage Center Alliance (NWHCA) is hoping to revitalize the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. The Alliance presented a new project to the Washoe County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday. The $80 million project has a total of three phases. "It's time to play catch-up, it's time. If this is going to remain a vital part of our Western heritage recognition in our community and our agricultural heritage in this community this is the facility that needs our attention to do so," said Perry Di Loreto, President of NWCHA.
