Here are the top three stories in Reno today:
- The Nevada Humane Society will be waiving adoption fees at its Reno shelters on Friday. The adoption fees are being sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society. The shelters are currently experiencing an increase in the number of animals being admitted into the shelters. They are citing economic restraints as the main factor for the increase. (Nevada Appeal)
- Reno will be hosting the Miss USA pageant until 2024. The Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority signed a three-year contract with the Miss USA organization. The pageant will be using the stage at the Grand Sierra Resort - the largest indoor stage in the world. The authority will be working with the Reno Tahoe Airport to promote direct flights to bring contestants and spectators from around the country to the event. (KOLO)
- The back-to-school vaccination clinics will begin operating on Friday. The clinics are a joint effort between Washoe County Health District and Immunize Nevada. The newest vaccine requirement is for students entering the 12th grade to be immunized for meningococcal. A clinic will be at McQueen High School on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Lancer Street. (This Is Reno)
