Here are the top stories today in Reno:

  1. Union leaders and the Washoe County contractor that operates Reno's regional bus system are headed back to the bargaining table to try to negotiate the end of a nearly two-week-old strike. Discussions include a proposal by the company to change the way drivers' routes and schedules are decided. (KOLO)
  2. The entire state of Nevada is currently under some level of drought, but one local company is looking to save water — billions of gallons' worth a year. Incline Village-based Halogen Systems has developed sensors that can detect issues in wastewater streams without pulling directly from the supply. (KUNR Public Radio)
  3. The Marr Plan, an organization protesting wild horse roundups in Nevada, will host a motorcade from Reno to Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 16 starting at 9 a.m. Event organizers said that the 31-mile drive represents the length of a single file line of 20,000 horses, the number of wild horses that the Bureau of Land Management has the capacity to round up annually.
