Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- Two former Motel 6 buildings are being remodeled into affordable housing. Repvblik, a Michigan-based real estate company, purchased the two properties and plans to create 239 units at the locations. The buildings are at 1901 S. Virginia St. and 1400 Stardust St. The company states that there will be no income requirements to rent the properties, but rent will be priced between 60 percent and 120 percent of the area's median income, which a representative says will be "slightly north of $1,100 per month." (Reno Gazette Journal)
- The Biggest Little Blockchain has arrived in Reno. The first city-run and resident-focused blockchain platform in the United States creates a single ledger for the public and all city departments. The City hopes to expand the scope of the blockchain app to regular maintenance work, permitting, and licensing. The platform is unrelated to Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. - A Sparks man was arrested after a crash in Golden Valley killed one person. 25-year-old Roberto Ramirez-Martinez was arrested on the felony charge of driving under the influence resulting in death. The crash occurred early Sunday morning at the intersection of East Golden Valley Road and Spearhead Way. As of Monday evening, the name of the victim has not yet been released. (KRNV)
