Here are the top stories today in Reno:
- The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) soon plans to remove seven flashing signs on Pyramid Way that warn drivers when the light is about to change at the upcoming intersection. NDOT officials believe the changes will improve safety on the busy corridor, but Sparks councilman Kristopher Dahir is calling on them to reconsider their decision. Dahir also criticized NDOT for applying a "cookie cutter" approach statewide and not consulting with local elected leaders enough before announcing the plan. (KRNV My News 4)
- A yearlong campaign targeting impaired driving on last Friday and Saturday resulted in 147 arrests for impaired driving, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office said Thursday. This was a 16 percent increase over the prior year, the sheriff's office said. There were also 30 speeding citations, nine red-light citations, 42 citations for using a cell phone or other distracted driving and 59 other citations. Deputies made 266 stops of drivers. (KOLO)
- Greater Nevada Credit Union is looking to help families in need during the holidays and is calling on the community for support. Now through Dec. 9, branches will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items, along with new toys and clothing. (KOLO)
- The Reno Experience District is having a grand opening event this weekend. They will be celebrating the completion of two residential buildings, the Welcome Pavilion and their Great Park. (KTVN)
- A funeral service was held Friday for a member of the Nevada Army Guard who passed away while at Army school in Virginia. (KTVN)
