🌱New Rentable Commercial Kitchen + Using Whips Unlawful In Reno

Stay in the loop about everything new in Reno with Patch's daily newsletter.

Good morning, people of Reno! Rachel Kilimnik here with the latest issue of the Reno Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and cool. High: 66 Low: 34.

Here are the top stories in Reno today:

  1. Local restaurateur Mark Estee is helping to launch a new culinary venture this spring: a rent-by-the-hour commercial kitchen inside a new apartment complex. With kitchen amenities such as private lockers and freezers, the space is being pitched by developers as ideal for local culinary start-ups, caterers and food truck operations. Estee, CEO of the ever-expanding food empire Local Food Group, said he has only offered consultancy services thus far but hopes to play a greater role. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  2. The Reno City Council passed an ordinance at Tuesday's council meeting outlining the unlawful use of a whip and placed whips under the weapons municipal code. The ordinance bans whips from the downtown corridor, including the possession, use or carrying of a whip without a permit. Additionally, the ordinance outlines that cracking a whip within Reno city limits is unlawful. The ordinance was passed to address the growing number of calls to police when people called mistaking the cracking whips for gunshots. (KOLO)
  3. The Zombie Crawl returns to downtown Reno for a night full of booze and fun events after it was canceled last year due to COVID-19. Participants can get a crawl cup and map to the event for $10. The crawl cups act as a ticket to the event, according to the event website. As of Wednesday morning, about 2,000 people purchased the crawl cups. (Reno Gazette Journal)
