🌱 I-580 Investigation + No Charges In Eldorado Villas BBQ Fire

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Hello again, Reno! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Reno Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Reno Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Reno long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

First, today's weather:

Cold with clouds and sun. High: 31 Low: 7.

Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. A police investigation shut down an I-580 off-ramp in South Reno on Tuesday afternoon. Officials did not disclose what the investigation entailed; however, both Nevada State Police and the Reno Police Department responded to the incident. The northbound off-ramp at Virginia Street was closed while police investigated, and drivers were asked to use an alternate route. (KOLO)
  2. No charges will be filed after an accidental BBQ fire destroyed multiple condos in north Reno. On Sunday afternoon, six units were destroyed at the Eldorado Villas in Stead, leaving nine people without a place to live and an estimated $1.5 million worth of damage. The owner of the condo was cooperating with fire officials, according to Reno Fire Department chief Dave Cochran, and will not be charged because it was an accident. (KRNV My News 4)
  3. The University of Nevada, Reno's (UNR) cannabis program is helping students to get involved in the industry. Beginning the first week of March, the next batch of students will start the online program, which is offered as four separate certificates including healthcare, law, business, and agriculture. The first class will be graduating soon from the six-month program. According to The Source dispensary general manager Christine Gamez, they have already received applications for soon-to-be graduates of the program. (KRNV My News 4)
