Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- In 2020, a wildfire that destroyed five homes and damaged two dozen others in Reno was blamed on arching power lines in gale force winds along the Sierra Nevada's eastern front. Now, in response to an ongoing lawsuit over damages from the Pinehaven Fire, NV Energy officials plan to inspect the Reno neighborhood's power lines. According to a spokesperson from NV Energy, the company believes the wildfire was sparked by a campfire in the nearby Sierra foothills. (Modesto Bee)
- The City of Reno has received $51.5 million in federal coronavirus recovery funds, with $3 million set aside for the development of local parks. The parks funds are proposed for improvements to fields at Stead's Dorothy McAlinden Park, including lights, irrigation improvements, and playground upgrades. (This Is Reno)
- A Reno man who was caught with over 16 pounds of methamphetamine in his car will serve eight to 20 years in prison. 51-year-old Vincent Floyd Latham pleaded guilty to attempted drug trafficking, the Washoe County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday. (KOLO)
