🌱 Pileup Shuts Down Highway + Reno As Next Lithium Capital

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Good morning, Reno! I'm Dominique-Noelle Rafael and I'll be your new source for all the events, news, and general happenings in your town.

First, today's weather:

Cold with snow at times, 1-2". High: 29 Low: 18.

Here are the top 3 stories in Reno today:

  1. Whiteout conditions caused a 20-vehicle pileup that had shut down Interstate 580 in Washoe Valley. The Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue responded to two separate pileups and six people were taken to the hospital. Winter Storm Elmer is growing and affecting higher elevations with snow. (The Weather Channel)
  2. Is Reno the next lithium capital? Lithium is a key ingredient needed to move away from combustible engines and toward electric vehicles. Some companies are looking to Nevada for this 'white gold.' Currently, a vast majority of the lithium found and used in the United States is from other countries. Nevada has proven to be one of the best resources in the nation. (The Nevada Independent)
  3. Superstitions Java is a veteran-owned coffee shop in Golden Valley that opened last summer. The coffee shop creates concoctions as unique as its hanging umbrella decorations and ladders that grace the wall. However, if you aren't one for new ventures, they do have the classic sips like a cup of joe or an Americano. What will you try? A new adventure or a staple drink? (ThisisReno)
