🌱 Police Urge Caution In New School Zone + Olympian Returns Home

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Hello again, Reno! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Reno Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Reno Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Reno long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

First, today's weather:

A little a.m. snow, up to 1". High: 33 Low: 15.

Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. Police say drivers are not slowing down enough in a new school zone in South Reno. The zone on Neil Road serves the Coral Academy of Science campuses and asks drivers to reduce their speed to 15 miles per hour on school days during designated times. The Reno Police Department Traffic Section says it will be partnering with Washoe County School District Police and the Nevada Highway Patrol to conduct additional enforcement in the zone and ensure that students can navigate the area safely. (KOLO)
  2. Reno residents were invited to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport on Monday afternoon to welcome home Olympian David Wise. The three-time Olympic medalist and Reno native returned from the Beijing Olympics to his hometown in a flight that landed shortly after noon. Wise achieved a silver medal victory in the men's freestyle ski halfpipe at this year's event. (KRNV My News 4)
  3. The University of Nevada, Reno is considering awarding honorary degrees to two sisters who fought to protect Western Shoshone ancestral lands. The University's President, Brian Sandoval, will formally present the proposal during the Nevada System of Higher Education board of regents meeting early next month. During the meeting, regents will also consider giving a distinguished Nevadan award to Guy Clifton, a longtime Nevada journalist. (ThisisReno)
