Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the Reno area yesterday. Heavy brief bursts of rainfall occurred on Wednesday and Thursday. The storm was categorized as a "pulsing storm." The storm was reportedly caused by a monsoonal flow that came from the Gulf of California. (San Francisco Chronicle)
  2. A fire was reportedly started on Peavine Mountain by lightning. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection responded to the fire that was measured at about a quarter of an acre. Smoke was visible in the area. Residents do not need to call 911 about the incident - the authorities already know about it. (KOLO)
  3. Thousands of Reno electric customers experienced a power outage on Wednesday. According to NV Energy, about 9,491 customers in Washoe County experienced the outage. The exact cause of the outage is currently under investigation. (KOLO)
