Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- The City of Reno has released a statement regarding Friday's collision between a Reno police officer and an e-scooter rider. According to the city, preliminary investigations indicate the collision took place after the rider ran a red light; the rider did not require emergency medical services. The incident is under investigation by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office; as per regional protocol, the Reno Police Department is unable to comment. (Press Release Desk)
- Beat the heat with a frozen treat! On Wednesday, May 25 and Friday, May 27, Vice Mayor Neoma Jordon will host two Italian ice socials in celebration of Older American Month. 200 free scoops of Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard will be available to residents on a first-come, first-serve basis from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Wednesday event will take place at the Neil Road Recreation Center, while the Friday event will be held at Tegila's Paradise Park. - Amid ongoing wildfires in the area, University of Nevada, Reno Extension's Living with Fire Program will be hosting two "Preparing for Wildfire and Evacuation" sessions. The events, scheduled for Jun. 7 and Jun. 16, will be held both in-person and online as part of the Nevada Wildfire Awareness Campaign.
