🌱 Severe Blood Shortage + Guzman Trial Finally Coming To A Close
Here's the latest edition of the Reno Daily— your source for the scoop on what's happening in town.
Good day, people of Reno! It's me again, Rachel Kilimnik, your host of the Reno Daily.
First, today's weather:
Mostly cloudy, showers around. High: 54 Low: 43.
Here are the top stories today in Reno:
- There is a severe need for blood and platelet donations in the Reno-Sparks area.
According to nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant, Type O blood, which is the most transfused blood type and is vital to helping patients in emergencies, has plummeted to under a two-day supply – its lowest level since May 2020. Officials say you do not have to wait to donate blood after receiving your COVID-19 and/or flu vaccines. (KRNV My News 4) - After nearly 3 years, the prosecution of Wilber Martinez Guzman is finally coming to a close.During a status hearing Thursday morning in Washoe County District Court, Guzman pleaded guilty to multiple charges. Guzman's case has dragged on because of defense challenges and continuances, and in September the Nevada Supreme Court ruled two separate trials must be conducted, prompting each jurisdiction to begin moving forward with independent murder prosecutions. That all changed on Thursday with Guzman's guilty plea. (KOLO)
- The inaugural Reno Tahoe International Art (RTIA) Show will take place Sept. 8-11, 2022 at the Reno Sparks Convention Center, Reno, Nevada. The exhibition will feature "Heart of Reno" presenting 100 curated local artists showcasing works of fine visual arts, bespoke furniture, and lighting. (KOLO)
- Reno-based Flirtey is partnering with Mesa Air Group, Inc. to become the first airline to launch a drone delivery business in the U.S., with a focus on food delivery. (KTVN)
- The City of Reno will dedicate the permanent Bicentennial Park Sculpture Garden, which currently houses a variety of art installations along the river for the enjoyment of visitors to the river corridor, on Oct. 21, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. (Press Release Desk)
