🌱 Shelter For The Homeless + Lockdown Lifted At Billinghurst

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Welcome back, Reno! Here's everything you need to know to get this Friday started off right.

Editor's Note: A previous version of this article misspelled John Muir's surname.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 60 Low: 27.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Reno:

  1. Within the last four years, figures revealed that there was an 875 percent increase in street sleepers in Reno. Fortunately, Grant Denton has come up with a solution to help ease this situation. Authorities are currently installing eight-foot square "mod-pods" to act as temporary shelters for the homeless. Each pod costs around $13,000 and includes a bed, shelves, heating, air conditioning, and more. They are even supplying Reno's Cares Campus Safe Camp's community with two meals a day. (Daily Mail)
  2. Due to an incident that took place at Billinghurst Middle School in northwest Reno, the Washoe County School District called for a precautionary code yellow lockdown. Details about the incident that took place last Thursday have not yet been disclosed. Yesterday, the district lifted the lockdown after police investigated the school and deemed it safe. This is a developing story, so we will keep you updated. (KRNV My News 4)
  3. Even though Valentine's Day has not passed, the Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada are already prepping for Easter! Every year, this organization collects clothes, toys, and gift cards for their Operation Easter Basket. These baskets go to children who may not otherwise receive them. Each basket is around $20 in value, and the organization is asking for the community's help in participating. (KOLO)
