Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam is seeking re-election in 2022, and he may be running unopposed. The deadline for candidates to file their applications for nomination is Friday, Mar. 18, and no other candidates have applied to run for sheriff as of Monday, Mar. 14. Sheriff Balaam was elected in 2018 and in that time has focused on increasing deputies, bolstering inmate mental health services, cracking down on human trafficking, and tackling the opioid crisis, according to a statement. (FoxReno.com)
  2. Local authorities are asking for help in finding a suspect in a Sunday morning Reno shooting that left one dead and two wounded. According to a press release from the Reno Police Department, an unknown male approached a vehicle in the 1000 block of Telegraph Street and fired several rounds into the vehicle, striking three people inside. One victim reportedly died from their injuries in the emergency room at Renown Regional Medical Center. A $2,500 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  3. A newly-launched partnership between the University of Nevada, Reno and local growers and winemakers aims to advance the Nevada wine industry, continue existing research efforts, and support educational activities. Participants in the partnership include UNR's College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources, its Experiment Station and Desert Farming Initiative, and the Nevada Grape Growers & Winemakers. In October, the College and the Experiment Station each contributed $5,000 to the Nevada Grape Growers & Winemakers to kickstart some of the partnership's activities and events, including classes, formal wine evaluations, vineyard tours, and roundtables. Reno business owners Alynn Delisle and Mike Steedman of Nevada Sunset Winery are among the leaders of the partnership. (Nevada Today)
