Here are the top stories in Reno today:

  1. After more than a year of haggling, city officials seem to be closing in on purchasing the controversial Space Whale sculpture. Reno City Council on Wednesday approved $137,500 to purchase and repair the sculpture that has been in City Plaza since 2017. Artist Matt Schultz created Space Whale for Burning Man 2016. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  2. The Reno City Council has directed its staff to continue researching the issues of cannabis lounges and curbside pickup. In Wednesday's Council Meeting, the Council did not make any decision on whether to move towards those actions. The Council did vote to move forward with the process to license two additional cannabis retail stores. (KOLO)
  3. Many small business owners thought things would get better in 2021, but the struggles they are facing now have changed. In order to hire workers, Reno businesses need to offer higher wages but can't do that without raising their prices. (KTVN)
  4. CoAuto is a mechanic shop in Reno that prides itself in being a community-focused car shop. It offers events throughout the year to give customers the tools to make the right decisions for their car. (KTVN)
  5. According to RFD, the risk of a child being injured or killed by a car on Halloween doubles compared to any other day of the year, and fires caused by candles also increase on the holiday. Here are RFD's tips for safety this year.(KOLO)
