Here are the top 3 stories today in Reno:
- A man was arrested for allegedly attacking several people near the Steamboat Creek area of South Reno last Friday evening. 29-year-old Derek Lowell Kirk has also been accused of threatening one person with a knife. Since then, he has been booked with a misdemeanor charge of battery, felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, child abuse causing substantial bodily harm, and parole violation. Kirk was officially arrested this past Wednesday. (KOLO)
- After two full years in a pandemic, the Reno-Tahoe area is aiming to rebound as a tourist destination. To reach this goal, they are planning to bring in new special events, conventions, and more to boost the tourism industry in the area. Charles Harris, CEO of Visit Reno Tahoe, is excited to begin this journey with the Davis Cup qualifier. He stated that it will be the first time for the region to host what's often called the world cup of tennis. (KUNR Public Radio)
- The Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation recently increased their total of $4.7 million in donations by $165,100. This nonprofit helps oversee the annual Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event. The Barracuda Championship really enjoys their tradition of giving back to the local community and are always grateful to be supporting so many incredible organizations!
