🌱 Students Protest End Of Mask Mandate + Missing Woman Rescued

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Dominique-Noelle Rafael, your host of the Reno Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sunny and chilly. High: 49 Low: 22.

Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. On Monday, some University of Nevada, Reno students and faculty walked out to protest the end of the Nevada mask mandate. Roughly 50 students marched, calling on President Brian Sandoval to reinstate the mask requirement on campus. Late last week, Sandoval stated that he believes he doesn't have the authority to unilaterally reimpose a mask mandate on his campus. A petition to reinstate mask requirements on Nevada System of Higher Education campuses has circulated, garnering 1,700 signatures as of Monday afternoon. (News 4)
  2. Two people were arrested at a downtown Reno motel last week and now face multiple drug charges. On Feb. 7, Anika Porter, 42, and Courtney Cortez, 38, both of Reno were arrested in a motel room on the 600 block of West 4th Street. Each suspect is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sales, trafficking a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. (KOLO)
  3. A missing Caughlin Ranch woman was rescued by The Reno Fire Department and REMSA on Monday night. The victim, Gayle Stewart, was located by searchers down a steep, rocky, and wet slope. Stewart is in stable condition and is uninjured besides reporting being cold in the evening's dropping temperatures. (News 4)
