Here are the top stories today in Reno:
- A Sun Valley middle school teacher has been arrested by detectives with the Regional Narcotics Unit and is now facing drug charges. During a narcotics investigation in the area of Mills Street and Wells Avenue on Tuesday, investigators say they found methamphetamine on 43-year-old Aaron Kepler. When officers tried to arrest Kepler, he allegedly fought back and minorly injured one detective and one officer. Kepler had also been arrested earlier this month for a felony count of possession of a controlled substance but was released three days later. (KOLO)
- On Tuesday night, Nevada state leaders struck down the vaccine mandate for college students across the state. The mandate was initially passed over the summer, and a legislative commission has now voted against it. Melody Rose, chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education, said any students whose registration has been on hold for not having the vaccine must be lifted immediately. (8 News Now)
- Looking to buy a house soon? You may be in luck: Redfin projects that new home listings will hit a 10-year-high in 2022, which may entice more current homeowners to move. In Reno, the median sale price for a single-family home was about $438,000 from the beginning of September through the end of November, according to Redfin — 20 percent higher than the median price over the same period last year.(Reno Patch)
