🌱 Track Reno's Carbon Emissions + New Year’s Resolution Wall

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Good morning, Reno! Let's get you started this Wednesday with everything you need to know going on today in Reno.

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy with a shower. High: 47 Low: 39.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Reno:

  1. Reno residents can track the city's progress in reducing carbon emissions in real time. The city has launched a public portal, which monitors carbon emissions from city buildings, like fire stations, public utilities, meters, vehicle fleets, and more. The tracking dashboard was created in partnership with local startup Ledger8760 and the technology is not only able to identify the source of the emission, but also the cost. (KOLO)
  2. If you're traveling through the Reno Tahoe International Airport during the holiday season, arriving early is key. Staff say impending inclement weather in the days leading up to Christmas may affect the ease of movement in and out of RNO, so build in extra time to visit the New Year's Resolution Wall and Paws 4 Passengers therapy dogs, who are scheduled for Dec. 22, 23, 26, and Jan. 2 to bring smiles and calm to airport guests. Passengers who visit the New Year's Resolution Wall can share their resolutions for 2022 from Dec. 27 – Jan. 4. (South Tahoe Now)
  3. Reno Police say last night's downtown crash that sent five people to the hospital was likely caused by a DUI. Police say the driver of a Chrysler went through a stop sign just before 10:00 p.m. at W. Sixth and West streets, hitting a Jeep SUV. Reno Police say two of the four people riding in the Jeep suffered non-life threatening injuries, stating that all passengers were wearing seatbelts. (KOLO)

From my notebook:

  • Reno PD hosted the 5th Annual Christmas Gift Giveaway on Monday! They would like to give a big thanks to the officers who coordinated this event and all of the volunteers who participated. (Facebook)
  • Nevada Humane Society is hoping to find homes for their shelter pets. Thanks to Home At Last, Nevada Rural Housing Authority, all of the adult shelter pets 5 months and older are free to take home this holiday season. (Facebook)
  • There were big smiles at Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center this weekend, where the Food Bank of Northern Nevada staff and incredible volunteers served nearly 1,000 families at a special holiday meal distribution. (Instagram)
