🌱 Tribe Sues U.S. Land Agency + Reno Air Scholarship Program

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Reno Daily.

First, today's weather:

Cold with periods of sun. High: 35 Low: 14.

Here are the top stories in Reno today:

  1. The Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe and the Center for Biological Diversity alleged in a Reno federal court lawsuit Wednesday that the Bureau of Land Management authorized the Dixie Meadows Geothermal Utilization Project in November without adequately weighing how it could degrade adjacent hot springs and their ecosystem. The lawsuit also alleges that the project would violate the religious beliefs of the tribe, which has lived in the area for more than 10,000 years, and for whom the springs are sacred. (Reuters)
  2. The Reno Air Racing Association is taking applications for its inaugural Flight Training Scholarship Program. Up to 10 students ages 16 to 22 will receive scholarships that will help them get their private pilot's license. The association is trying to do more to add scope and depth to the annual STIHL National Championship Air Races and could lead students into a career in aviation. (KOLO)
