🌱 Valentine's 'Dump' Truck + Mask Mandates Drop At NV Colleges

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Reno.

Good day, neighbors! Dominique-Noelle Rafael here with a fresh issue of the Reno Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 64 Low: 27.

Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. On Wednesday, a man staying at a Washoe County homeless shelter was arrested for allegedly failing to comply with sex offender laws. Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 63-year-old Andra Cornelius Byrd at the Nevada CARES campus, where he resided on and off since November. Byrd was previously convicted of sexual assault in Nevada and Texas. (KOLO TV)
  2. If you're still holding onto your ex's belongings, there's no better time to get rid of them than on Valentine's Day. On Monday, Feb. 14, Junk King Reno is hosting an event where people can dispose of their exes' junk into a dump truck. The company will donate $1 to the American Heart Association for every item dumped, up to $500 with a limit of two items per individual. (KRNV My News 4)
  3. Following Governor Steve Sisolak's decision to drop most mask mandates, Nevada universities and colleges have followed suit. The change applies to all staff, students, and guests of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). In a letter to university presidents, Chancellor Melody Rose said, "While the face-covering mandate has been removed, all NSHE employees, students, and members of the public retain the option of personally deciding to continue wearing a face covering on NSHE property." (KOLO)

  • Reno's own Smiling with Hope Pizza ranked third in Yelp's Top 100 Pizza Places in the U.S.! The Reno pizzeria is known for both its delicious New York-style pies and for hiring people with developmental disabilities. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  • Washoe County leaders are seeking community input on how to help people and horses cohabitate in Reno. In the past three years, 25 car crashes with wild horses have been recorded. (KRNV My News 4)
