Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. Reno residents may have noticed smoke in the sky on Friday, due to a sizeable controlled burn in the area of Whites Creek. During the early morning hours yesterday, the US Forest Service conducted a controlled burn of 70 acres in south Reno. The burn was part of the Carson Ranger District's Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project. (KRNV)
  2. Some Reno parents are scrambling to find a daycare for their kids after a local preschool announced a temporary closure. Damonte Ranch KinderCare closed its doors on Thursday after receiving multiple resignations from teachers, according to the center's director. Now, families are finding most daycare providers have long waitlists, as the number of licensed childcare providers in Washoe County has decreased by 33 percent in the last eight years. (KOLO)
  3. Moms on the Run is returning this Mother's Day. On May 8, the 5k walk and 5k/10k run will be returning, with funds raised going to assist the needs of local women battling cancer. Learn about the signature event's decades-long success story at the link. (KOLO)
