🌱 Davis Cup Team In Reno + Possible Officer Fentanyl Exposure

Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. For the first time, The United States Davis Cup Team will come to Reno as the U.S. takes on Colombia in a 2022 Davis Cup by Rakuten Qualifier. The best-of-five match series will begin on Friday, Mar. 4, with two singles matches. On Saturday, a doubles match and two reverse singles matches will follow, with the winner advancing to the 2022 Davis Cup Finals—a 16-nation, multi-city competition held later this year with dates and locations to be announced.   2. Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman has been sentenced to two consecutive terms of life in prison without parole for two January 2019 Reno murders. Back in Oct. 2021, Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the 2019 deaths of Gerald and Sharon David in Reno. On Thursday, he will be sentenced in Douglas County for the killings of Connie Koontz, 56, and Sophia Renken, 74, in Gardnerville during the two-week crime spree and on Friday, he'll be sentenced in Carson City in connection to stolen property charges.   3. On Monday night, a Reno police officer was taken to the hospital for possible fentanyl exposure. The officer reported the potential exposure at about 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 while driving on N. McCarran Boulevard near N. Virginia Street. According to the Reno Fire Department, the tests conducted on the substance at the scene were inconclusive and the officer's hospitalization was done as a precaution. (KOLO)
