ALBANY, NH — Passing hikers were able to help an elderly hiker from a trail in the White Mountains on Tuesday.

Around 3 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game Department conservation officers received a report of a hiker who had tripped and injured his hip. Joseph Mira, 72, of Warwick, Rhode Island, was descending down the Champney Falls Trail when he tripped. He was about a half-mile from the trailhead, Sgt. Alex Lopashanski of Fish and Game.

“There is no cell phone service in the area,” he said. “A passing hiker continued out and drove nearly 10 miles before she was able to alert personnel from the U.S. Forest Service of the incident.”
