Conservation officers found the hikers about a mile and a half from the trailhead and were able to lead them out of the darkness. They arrived at the trailhead around 11 p.m., according to officials.
The department said outdoor enthusiasts and hikers are encouraged to purchase a Hike Safe card, linked here. The purchase of the card helps offset the cost of emergency response. Safe hiking tips and a list of essential gear can also be found online.
