Why are you seeking elective office?

I want to make a difference and help protect our N.H. advantage and our Granite State heritage.

The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Erosion of traditional values

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

Other candidates seem to want New Hampshire to adopt the failed policies of other states which involve higher taxes, more regulation, and expanded government.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.

"Accountability. Integrity, Service." We need to promote a better understanding of and appreciation for our American heritage --- to include the 1st and 2nd Amendments. We should honor local control. We should respect the people who pay taxes and not saddle future generations with debt. We need to retain the qualities that have made N.H. unique and special.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Served as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs. Served several terms on House Education Committee. Have successfully sponsored or co-sponsored much successful and consequential legislation. Have been appointed as a member of several influential national committees and commissions. Retired professor. decorated Marine Corps infantry officer. Award-winning author and columnist.

The best advice ever shared with me was:

"Carpe diem!"

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I’m excited to be running for reelection as state representative for Merrimack County’s District 4 (Canterbury and Loudon). Serving in the legislature is not for everyone but I love it. The pay in New Hampshire is only $100 a year but for me the rewards are intrinsic. I’m very proud of sponsoring successful legislation that’s touched every community in the state for the better, to include returning to an emphasis on teaching (civics) fundamentals, requiring more attention for neglected “gifted” students, promoting unified sports experiences and much more.
Good friends are priceless, and I’ve made several at the State House. Working together we’ve made positive changes for New Hampshire. Effective legislators do need to develop good relationships and I’ve tried to connect with all kinds of folks from every part of New Hampshire: young and old, male and female, conservative and liberal.
While not locked into any ideological template, my perspectives generally reflect the traditional mainstream conservative Republicanism that’s served New Hampshire very well over the many years. And my perspectives are very public, as I’m not shy about writing Op-Eds, columns, BLOG items, social media posts and more—to include radio interviews or zoom sessions. I try to answer every personal message and always return phone calls.

One thing I’m not good at is asking for help—i.e dollars. Consequently, I’ve mostly self-funded my campaigns with the attendant flyers, mailers, signs, ads and more—although I’m immensely grateful for the financial support given to me in the past by a generous few.
In a purple district such as mine it takes a lot of work to get elected or reelected. I lost my 2018 reelection bid by 55 votes when the other side spent an immense amount of out-of-state money and did at least six mass mailers throughout my district opposing me. I was outspent by at least 10-1. While I returned to the State House after a huge win in 2020, indications are that the other side will be going back to their 2018 playbook and will be spending vast amounts of money again. With memories of 2018 fresh in my mind, I’ll be working hard but would certainly appreciate any help from folks supportive of my perspectives and positions.
