Amherst Unemployment Rate at 4.9 Percent

Many Amherst residents have had the good fortune to find work compared to the rest of the country.

The jobless rate in Amherst is 4.9 percent, a bit lower than the state average of 5.3 percent, according to August numbers from the N.H. Employment Security, Economic and Labor Market Information Bureau released last month.

A total of 5,980 Amherst residents are employed, with 310 Amherst residents currently out of work.

New Hampshire has the lowest unemployment rate in New England, with an estimated 39,280 Granite State residents out of work. Estimates show 700,720 New Hampshire workers currently employed.

The U.S. unemployment rate is much higher at 9.1 percent.
