• Girl Scouts recognized by secretary of state (cabinet.com) — Two Amherst Girl Scouts have been honored by New Hampshire’s secretary of state for a Bronze Award project documenting the town’s Revolutionary War heroes and mapping their burial sites. Their recognition is part of the statewide Civics In Action: 50 Students 50 Stars program celebrating student civic engagement. The article also notes other local Scouts’ projects that support communities across New Hampshire.
• Summer's Almost Here and Cyanobacteria Problems Back on NH Lakes and Ponds (indepthnh.org) — An alum treatment to combat recurring cyanobacteria blooms is starting this week on Baboosic Lake, which spans Merrimack and Amherst, aiming to cut internal nutrient loads by up to 90 percent. State officials also report several other New Hampshire lakes with current blooms and urge residents to use the Healthy Swimming Mapper and visual checks before swimming or letting pets in the water.
