AMS Spring Sports Start Monday
A look into what we have going on this season at Amherst Middle School

With the snow clearing and the weather warming it’s time to think about spring sports.
The official start date for spring sports for the Tri-County Middle School League is Monday, March 19. Amherst Middle School held their preseason sign-ups for track & field, baseball and softball that day.
Baseball coach Tim Lambrou has a list of thirty-four candidates to select from. The team went 8-2 last season before losing their play-off game to Mountain View. Coach Lambrou has a good selection of players to choose from and expects to have a solid team again.

Christine Ingemi has just been hired as the new coach for girls softball. Though the team didn’t make the play-offs last season there’s a good nucleus of young players to build from. Only fifteen players signed up but there’s expectation that others will come out for try-outs to compete for a spot on the team.
Coach Jeff Wing reports the track & field team has reached over 100 athletes already and will surely pick up several more by the end of tryout week to reach its customary 120-130 members. The teams look to have yet another strong season with Coach Corey White returning, and the coach addition of long-time PE teacher Deb Trainor.

The girls team has been undefeated and league champion the past three years and returns several individual champions. The boys team placed second in the championship for the second season in a row after winning it all in 2008 & 2009.
The 2012 Track schedule has been posted.
Team pictures will be taken on Tuesday, March 27 for all spring sports.
