Here is another update on the Mack Hill Road Reconstruction from DPW Director Bruce Berry:
The primary Work Zone is north of Woodland Drive.
Pipe Crew:

Pending Pending an assessment resulting from heavy rains, the pipe crew will be starting in the area of 78 Mack Hill (station 61+80) and working north on Monday 10-17-11. There is a crossing just north of High Meadow and another just south of Upper Flanders, a third just north of Roberge (may not get that far) all will result in daytime road closures (between morning and afternoon bus routes).
Underdrain Crew:

The pipe crew is now north of Station 76+00 (area of Roberge Drive) and will continue towards Sprague along the road edge but trucks and other equipment will be blocking the road and create some delays.
Stone Base Gravel:
This six to twelve inch elevation in the road base will continue throughout the week and you should expect delays while the material is being spread and leveled.
Full Box Base Material Removal:
Sometime this week, road test pits will be dug in the area of 73 Mack Hill (station 57+00). From the reclaiming, it appears there may only be a couple of inches of base gravels under the asphalt. If these suspicions are confirmed, the area will be excavated similar to the process between Woodland and Jones (shoulder to shoulder 20+ inches deep).
It is not a perfect science projecting each weeks work, a number of variables impact the plan. As I am sure you have come to realize sometimes I also miss an important detail in my reporting (such as the crossing closures last week). As I have said many times, I really appreciate everyone’s patience. Our goal is base asphalt up to Roberge by end of October.
The Austin Detour:
Due to the heavy rains and our desire not to create a mud bowl detour, the plans to grade Austin Road this weekend were placed on hold. Crush stone was bladed into the pot holes Friday and condition monitoring will start again on Monday 10-17-11.
Be safe, use the detours whenever possible. As always, thank you for your continued support and we wish you a great week – Bruce W. Berry
